Idea: why not randomize the default selection in the "Service" dropdown on the homepage? Instead of always have Soundcloud selected first.

Okay I see.
But I doubt that other sources will become more popular when pushing one.
Another option would be to let randomly another service be the first one selected when loading/reloading the page.
Thanks for your work!!

I used to have a "listen from all" but it was too messy as some sources allow auto play and others don`t.

At the moment most people are interested in SoundCloud so it makes sense to have that first. If the other sources become more popular I will look at doing something like this.

Thanks for the suggestion!

PS: or let us choose "Listen from: ALL"

Would it be possible to increase the number of comments that can be seen for each track? We`d love to say `thanks` to everyone who took the time and effort to leave us a comment, but if all you see is a load of comments saying `cheers mate` or whatever, it doesn`t tell you much about the track. The comments act as great unbiased third-party opinions, recommendations and descriptions of your tracks, so being able to see maybe the last four comments would allow for two comments and two `cheers mate` replies. What do you think?

You can see the first 100 comments per track on this page - https://atomcollectorrecords.com/beta/listen.asp Or am I misunderstanding you?

I will request, once again, that the date of posting is listed. Then I (we) can know if this a new track I`m listening to without going down a list of comments to see if I had listened before. (I know I SHOULD recall a track if it was that good but the chances aren`t all the great that I will. I keep my memory brain cells in a landfill for safe keeping!)

That`s a good question. I would guess that the original entry might be more pertinent. But to be honest I really can`t say for sure. (Although I suppose I just did!)

Lol! It`s a good idea, but what about if you remove tracks and then repost them some months later? Which date should apply then?

Hello! :)

It would be awesome if the ACR comments for Bandcamp tracks could be remembered, much like the soundcloud ones are, if you remove a track and then later reupload it. We lost all of ours, boohoo! :(

Having a Bandcamp chart would also be fabulous if those things are on the agenda.

Thanks John. Sam was having a blonde moment or had the wrong glasses on. All of ours seem to be there when we reupload stuff and yes, there is indeed a chart! :p

Bandcamp chart is already there.

If you just set the credits to 0 for your tracks rather than removing them then the comments should remain.

Good morning John, I saw on the chat window yesterday you`d made some changes to the algorithm which selects tracks, I thought it said that once someone listened to your track the artist went to the back of the list. I may be understanding this wrong but does that mean that if someone listens to one of my tracks they have to cycle through one of everyone elses tracks before they hear another one of mine?

If so, does this mean that people with a larger number of tracks are being penalised in favour of people hearing tracks from more members. If so this may have a knock on effect on people who are potentially more active on the site with more tracks to share.

It may be a coincidence but activity on my tracks seemed to drop yesterday and I`ve built-up more spare credits as a result. I`d love to hear your thoughts, and be corrected if I am wrong...

Regards, Matt

Our track #1 has had a lot of plays, the others very few. Previous algorithm more balanced. There must be a good hybrid algorithm because in essence the new one is a good idea.

Thanks Bob. Interesting point you make about liking the same artist coming up for a while. Hadn`t thought about it from that point of view!

I noticed that only one track was getting any attention!

One thing I like about the site is hearing more from the same person, you get to know what their music is like and end up wanting to explore further. Overall you`ve got a really good thing going here, I`ve even made a couple of sales!

I understand and agree with the importance of everyone being given an opportunity. Previously though I had lots of tracks, and lots of listens, and had to listen to a lot of music in order to maintain my credits (and engaged with other users). That was surely a benefit to everyone. At the moment my credits are rising and I only have to listen to a few tracks a day to maintain any sort of equilibrium. That can`t be to the benefit of anybody if the site is used so passively?

Actually I just realised there was a flaw in my plan and only 1 track from each person would get plays if I put them all at the back of the queue!

So I have reverted to the original code for now.

I think now that we have more people listening we should find that we don`t get too many tracks from one person in a short space of time anyway.

That is correct and it should give everyone a chance of being heard.

Before some people were getting a lot of listens and others weren`t getting many at all.

The tracks come round very quickly so it should be a better way to do things but if it is a problem I will change it.

Let`s give it some time to bed in and see.

Just to add, it seems to be just the first track from each site (SC, YT, BC etc.) that is selected for play, no credits dropping from tracks lower down the list...

Hi Juxta, just a quick thought on the sponsored track. I was thinking that perhaps the previous months #1 track should have a spot on the `Are You Human` slot, that way it encourages people to get votes and up their production in return for massive plays on ACR, also the #1 artist could amend the title of their track to read (Atom Collector Records #1 track for August 2017) as a way to promote the website. Just a thought...

Another downside is: what if you remove that track from the playlist? Ourselves and the other acts on Wud Records change all tracks at the start of a month. What about having the current top 3 tracks from a genre/platform? That will keep the list more dynamic as votes come in over the month. Liking the new `choose one of these or a random one` feature BTW. :)

There is one downside to the autoplay of the previous month`s top track - it can cause an obvious mismatch on SoundCloud between the number of plays and the number of likes & comments. Not everyone would be happy for this to happen. Thoughts?

OK I`ve now done this for the "All Genre SoundCloud" chart and will work on the other platforms and specific genres.

I need to think about having the top track autoplay on the Sponsored Track page too. Seems like a great idea.

Liking the idea of the top 3 in each genre to show up randomly. :)

I think that`s a great idea. I need to think through the implications. E.g. people in classical aren`t going to have much chance.

It might be better to have the top 3 for each genre show up randomly.

Let me think about it and thank you!

ideas for promoting engagement....not sure how feasable they are but here goes...how about awarding bonus credits for doing things like following pages, voting, comments etc, 10 comment which have to be liked by the artist (i realise this will mean adding new buttons) 10 votes or any aother similar interactions ...have it on a random loop so you don`t know which you have to do next

yeah non musicians listening would be ideal, i know it used to be 10 credits for 10 listens but i was just thinking of more interactive stuff...

We used to do this actually so the code is already there but not active.

Unfortunately it caused the number of plays to drop as people were gaining too many credits.

We have spent hours discussing similar things and we always come back to the conclusion that anything other than a 1 to 1 ratio of credits earned to credits lost doesn`t work.

If we can get non-musicians to listen then this can be done as there will be people earning credits that are not actually using them for their own tracks.

Keep the ideas coming!

Hopefully it will happen one day.

And I`ll go back on my previous comment about the listening length. Now that I`m compelled to listen for 1:00 I find that if I`m only voting again for a track and not commenting a minute is way too long. Of course if you can set things up so that if you have commented/voted before it`s recognized and the time limit is eliminated that would be great-but it sounds like some serious work.
