With the various financial troubles that are afflicting SoundCloud, along with a number of things we are not happy about with regard to their service, we are thinking of jumping ship before it sinks. This means taking down all our (578!) tracks, moving them somewhere else and maybe just leaving our `Discoveries` there, as we`ve met lots of fantastic artists at that site.

How is the addition of Bandcamp to ACR looking? Or other sites that may be popular with ACR users? We need a site with an embeddable player. like Bandcamp, for our website.

Personally, as per my post in the lobby Swiveialbe mention, I think YouTube is the way to go for the simple fact that it is the most likely to still be around in a few years time.

If I can get someone to write a simple uploader that takes an audio file and adds an ACR static image and uploads it to YouTube and I increase the minimum tracks to 50 then it would be no different than SoundCloud tracks on here.

I can add the ability to "like" tracks with notifications and even add groups and playlists.

Adding Bandcamp should just be a formality too.

I find it hard to believe however that someone won`t buy SoundCloud and keep it running in some form. As a technology business owner I find it hard to understand how they spend so much money so maybe someone else can come along and run it more efficiently.

you see Juxta`s reply to this topic in the Lobby? A couple other interesting ideas & links there too.

btw I`ve been most appreciative of your additions to SC. They`ve really raised the bar. 578! I got some catching up to do. It`s not as easy to find new artists on Bandcamp, but I will keep my ears open for Wud there.

Reverbnation is another possibility perhaps. There are free and paid versions of their plan, and all seem to allow various things with music stored there. Not looked into their limits yet though. 578 Wud tracks on there for free, as an example? - Wow, by the way. I`d love to think that would be fine, but suspect there may likely be some strings attached for such an impressive array of sounds? That said, the site has various promotional services, like Bandcamp that may well be worth paying their annual subscription plan price/s for, to those more determined to have the world hear and appreciate their sounds . . . . .

It would be nice to have some sort of gauge to know how much of the song a person listened to.

That would be cool. On Bandcamp you have three types of play - red is up to 10% of the track, yellow is 10-90% of the track and green is 90-100%. For all we know, listeners to tracks on SC might listen to the first note, decide they don`t like it (especially if it was F), then leave.

At the moment because I am using the embedded player I have no way of knowing this.

In future I may use the API (Application Program Interface) which will allow a lot more control over the player.

Okay, gonna try again. Maybe I`m the only one, but I see over a thousand members and it seems I`m getting the same dozen artists and often the same tracks coming through. We can access tracks via the Charts section, which is good, but can`t comment or vote, not sure if we get any credits listening from there. All in all, Atom has delivered, so, thanks, everybody.

Sometimes we see a lot of the same people too, and then sometimes it`s a completely different set of the same people. It does seem to be a reasonably random selection on balance over time.

It would be great if our suggestion were to be implemented - generating a playlist in the browser on the grey `go` button then being able to click through it one track at a time until the end was finally reached on the blue `next` button, or re-randomising on the grey `go` button again.

That way if somebody only has one track uploaded you wouldn`t end up missing it for a fortnight simply because of the luck factor involved in randomisation.

The total number of tracks that are live usually seems to be roughly equal to the number of members, so there are probably a lot of members who don`t have tracks with any credits.

A `back` button would be great as well, if you liked the previous track you heard but didn`t catch all the details to go listen on SC.

Hi Trendlaser.
I see the same thing, but I suspect it`s down to combination of numbers and human nature at the moment. I`ve got about 16 tracks on the go here, and have to work at maintaining credits to keep them alive. Working from home, I can do that. There are a number of other folk here in the same boat, so you`ll see more of our tracks floating about. Not everyone is either willing or able to put in the listening time. As user numbers increase that should even out more and we`ll have a higher proportion of active members - which will naturally increase the variety of sounds.

All that said, the ability to access sounds and comment/voting functionality through the chart pages would be a welcome addition, and could well encourage more activity among users??

Atom is nothing if not a very fair system, and John`s constant drive to improve the user experience is very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Nick

could the chose genre drop down be changed to a multiple button choice so you can choose several genres but not all of them?

I often listen to this site whilst doing other things around the house and would like a method of keeping the music playing without the need for clicking "Next" each time. I understand this is to eliminate people abusing the credit system so maybe implement a "No credit earned continuous play" option or something for when you`re away from keyboard.

All I can suggest is that you listen to the playlists on our SoundCloud account as I am constantly adding new ones with tracks from here. https://soundcloud.com/atom-collector-records/sets

What about a `wrong genre` alert button? In case a gangsta rap geeza puts his thing in the classical pot or the black metal track ends up in the jazz section, accidently or otherwise? How could this work?

What about having a warning flag button and then a drop-down of the other genres, so the person making the alert can suggest a more appropriate genre. From this the owner of the track could be notified and site admin as well. If a track receives a lot of these, perhaps it could simply be moved by admin? This might involve a slight increase of workload when the site grows bigger.

A side-effect of this addition might be that if a member has a multi-genre or post-genre track (e.g. Dark Company), the genre perceptions of other listeners could prove interesting and educational.

I will take all this into account as we grow.

Technically it`s all possible but I don`t want the site to become overly complex. Keep the ideas coming and I will keep thinking....

This isn`t clear to me-if you comment on a song does that mean you`ve automatically given a vote for it or does that mean it needs to be done separately? And if they`re, indeed, separate they should be united. IMACO of course l,l,l (AC=absolutely correct)

A display of how many different artists have track in live rotation at any time - just more info about the health/diversity of the contributing community here, really.

HI! =)
Is it possible to open up a board for something like "Support"?
For example for votings and contests.
